SUPERIOR IN ALL BUT NUMBERS

London, To-day.

MOST OF THE BRITISH newspapers yesterday had lead- ing articles on Finland's successful defence against the Soviets.

ITALIAN

The "Daily Telegraph," for instance, says that the Finns have shown themselves to be far superior to the in- vaders in all but numbers. Commenting on the Soviet Gov- ernment's attempt to conceal news of people, Soviet losses from its own the paper says that there is evidence that the veil of secrecy is being pierc→ ed, and that the Russian people are beginning to realise the miscalcula- tions of their leaders. Heavy losses could not be concealed for very long. Both the "Daily Telegraph" and "The Times" deal with Finland's need for help.

"All that these friends of liberty can do will not be too much," says "Fin- "The Times," and adds that fand's salvation will be a triumph for liberty which will re-echo through- out the world.”

The "Daily Herald" that if one lives in a democracy, one is treated as a human being; one can- not be transported from one part of the country to another unless one has broken the Inw. Not so in Germany and Russia, where thousands moved from their ancestral to suit the strategic aims of leaders. "They

Appeals from Finland for active as well as moral support received શ reply in a broadcast by the Norwegian Foreign Minister.

Norway, he said, must pursue her course of non-participation because her whole defence system is based on that idea.

Nevertheless Norway joins whole- heartedly in all appeals for moral and humanitarian ald.—Reuter.
