It is stated that nearly 100 planes took part in the battle, which raged for two hours over a wide area. About 40 of the planes were British bom- bers.
The Germans are putting out fantastic claims but the Air Ministry confirms its earlier report that seven R.A.F. planes were lost and 12 Messerch- midts downed.
The British bombers which took part in the raid are described as an ultra modern type, and engaged in flerce duels against repeated attacks by the Nazi fighters.
The wreckage of many planes and the bodies of dead aviators have been washed ashore on the German coast, while two of the crew of a British bomber have been picked up by a German boat. BOMBS DROPPED
It is emphasised here that the Bri- tish bombers' mission was completely successful.
