H.M.S. Exeter Put Out Of Action In Battle

A RUNNING BATTLE BETWEEN THREE BRITISH LIGHT CRUISERS DETAIN
AND THE GERMAN POCKET-BATTLESHIP COMMERCE RAIDER,
ADMIRAL SCHEER, OFF THE COAST OF URUGUAY, IS VIVIDLY, ITALIAN
THOUGH BRIEFLY DESCRIBED IN AN OFFICIAL COMMUNIQUE ISSUED EARLY THIS MORNING BY THE ADMIRALTY. H.M.S. Exeter, flagship of the South American division, and the most powerful ship on the station, 8,390 tons, armed with six 8-inch guns, was damaged during the action by the Admiral Scheer's heavy guns, -and was compelled to drop out of the engagement.
