Fairy Auk Favoured To Win Sunday's Classic Satisfactory Entries For Macao's Last Meeting

THE BIG SWEEP

Tickets for the big Dollar Sweep to be decided on the fifth race at Macao Jockey Club's final meeting of the season on Sunday, have not sold as well as was expected.

The "China Mail" was informed at 2.30 p.m. to-day that over 15,000 tickets had been sold, however, which will make the first prize something in the neighbour- hood of $8,400.

BIG DOLLAR SWEEP TO BE DECIDED

(By "RAPIER”)

THE MEETING to be held at Macao on Sunday will conclude the programme of race meetings under the aus- pices of Macao Jockey Club for 1939, and, judging by the entries received, should be well attended.

There is a varied programme of seven events, main fea- ture being the race for the Governor's Cup.

This cup was presented by His Excellency, Dr. Arthur Tamagnini de Sousa Barbosa, Governor of Macao, and in order to win it outright two successive victories by a pony or ponies belonging to the same owner or owners are neces- sary.

S.S. Kinshan, which leaves Macao at Saturday.

THIS WEEK I have several rather interesting matches&am, and racegoers will return on to comment upon, as for instance the first round singles handicap match between Doc Molthen and Maurice Weill, played on November 30.

Doc Molthen won it is true, but only by the very narrow margin of 25 pins. Doc's handicap was plus 9 and Welll's plus 25. which meant that Doc was giving Weill 16 pins per game or 48 pins in three games.

The final result of the match was as fol lows:

Doc Molthen M. Welli

189 167 200 164 152 167

556 531

Doc's average worked out at 185 pins per game and Well's at 177 pins per game. It was a great effort by Weill-he played much better than usual-and Doc Molthen after the match told me that he had been given the greatest "headache" he had had for a long time!

Then there was the second round singles handicap match played the same day be- tween George North, who was plus 25, and Jack Gracie, also plus 25.

The scores were:- George North
