WATCH ON

LINK STILL

Several people previously connected with The Link, the Anglo-German or- ganisation which was disbanded as an agency of enemy propaganda shortly before the war began, have now joined a new organisation.

The activities of these old mem- bers of The Link are still being watched.

The new organisation, mentioned in the House of Commons, is the Brit- ish Council for Christian Settlement in Europe.

It stands for a "negotiated peace" with Hitler.

Mr. Harold Nicolson (Nat. Labour Leicester W.) asked the Home Secre- s.,tary in the House recently if he was

of

aware that former members of The Link had joined this new organisa- tion and whether the activities these people are still being watched.

Sir John Anderson replied that the answer to both questions was In the affirmative.

Admiral Sir Barry Domvile, former chairman of The Link, however, has no connection with the new organisa- tion.

"GREAT EXAGGERATION" The Marquis of Tavistock, who is chairman of the Council said the statement that "several" people pre- viously connected with The Link were members was a "great exaggeration.” To his knowledge there was only one person formerly associated with The Link who was a member..

Mr. John Beckett, formerly a Soci- alist M.P. and later a prominent mem- ber of the British Union of Fascists, who is the honorary secretary, told a reporter:

"I myself do not know any one member formerly with The Link who is associated with us. Of course, we have had shoals of letters in support of our aims, and it may be there is an obscure former member of The Link among the writers, but certainly there is no prominent man.”

Mr. Beckett said that no M.P.s were members, although they had friends in both Houses, and he did not know that any members were in the Minis- try of Information.

"Our views coincide with those re- cently expressed by Mr. Lloyd written

George," he said. "I have placing our resources at his disposal, if he cares to use them."

The movement started as a small, local one, but had now 14,000 to 18,- 000 members.
