LORD ZETLAND UNABLE TO AGREE WITH CONGRESS

AN IMPORTANT STATEMENT on the future of India was made by Lord Zetland, Secretary of State for India, in the House of Lords yesterday. Lord Zefland stated that the Indian Congress had persistently taken the line, and still maintained, that the fact that there were racial and religious minorities in India was of no relevance.

Persistent reports of the death of several Canadian missionar- les in the Japanese-occupied rẻ- gions of China, have led to a de- marche by the Rev. E. A. Arm. strong, secretary of the United Church of Canada, to the Cana. dian Premier, -Mr. Mackenzie King, and to the Japanese Min- ister to Canada, Baron Tomil.

The United Church maintains missions in Honan, Hopei, Kiang: su, Kwangtung, "Shantung Szechuen. Havas.

But this did not mean that they had in any sense weakened in their determination to assist India by such means as was in their power to reach without avoidable delay the
