Mr. Mackenzie King, the Canadian Prime Minister, yesterday replied to charges of patronage or favouritism in the fulfilment of Canadian Government war contracts.

The charges were made by Mr. R. J. Mannion, Leader of thr Opposi- tion, who said that he was receiving a stream of protests against the way the contracts were being given out.

Furthermore, said Mr. Mannion, the Opposition had not been consult- ed on war matters.

Mr. Mackenzie King sald that every department in Canada was doing all it could to avold patron- age. The Government assumed every responsibility for carrying on the war and any specific com- plaints would be Investigated.

He concluded by saying that if matters had arisen requiring the advice of the Leader of the Opposi- tion, a conference would have been called. Reuter,
