LIES BEGINNING TO RUN OUT IN

GERMANY

London, To-day.

IT IS INTERESTING TO note that Dr. Goebbels' broadcast in connexion with Mr. Churchill and the Athenia (in which the Nazi Propaganda Minister said that three British destroyers had sunk the liner) provided yet another contradic- tion in the Nazi endeavours to explain away the torpedoing.

On September 4, the Nazi radio announced that it was possible the Athenia had been sunk by a mine.

On September 6, the Nazi radio said the Athenia had been torpedoed by the British.

On October 15, the Nazi radio revis- ed this judgment and was convinced that a time-bomb had been placed in the liner's hull.

Now Dr. Goebbels' theory is York on London rate was at least the fourth Athenia story £—U.S.$4,01-3/8.

Of course, it is well known that the evidence of the Athenia's captain and many other survivors left no doubt that the ship was sunk by an enemy submarine,

Another comical feature about the futile Nazi allegations is the German radio statement several days ago that the liner was sunk by Mr. Churchill in such deep water that would make examination by divers impossible.

This was followed yesterday by another masterpiece from the Nazl radio stating that the Athenia be can, in fact, examined by divers.

London comment on Dr. Goebbels' broadcast is: "It appears that even lles, are running out in Germany!"-
