THE LEADING SKIPS

The following are the Final positions of all First Divi. sion skips and the leading Second and Third Division skips of the Lawn Bowls League:-

H. A. Alves (Rec. "A") C. G. Bilva (Rocrelo)

B. W. Bradbury (C.C.C.) U. M. Omar (C.C.C.) Scots M. R. Abbas (I.R.C.)

"A." E. C. Fincher (K.C.C.) probably the A. M. Holland (K.B.G.C.) strongest side in the Colony, but last|A. R. Dallah (1.R.C.) season the Scots doggedly held them. F. Goodwin (K.C.C.) to a draw.

A. K. Minu (I.R.C.) · H. E. Strange (C.8.C.C.)

Whether it was a case

when the old saying of "against

F. X. M. da Silva (Rec. "A") bad side a good one will play bad. Hollidge (C.8.C.C.) football," applied, I do not know, but w. Macfarlane (K.B.G.C.) fact remains a draw it was and the R. Basa (C.C.C.) Scots will be all out on Saturday F. J. Jones (C.S.C.C.)

with their reformed team to improve] J. J. Basto (Rec. “B”) on this display.

their A. J. Hall (K.B.G.G.) dlesex pull out anything like true form they should win.

F. X. Soares (Rec. "B") B. Basto (Rec. "B") R. Morrison (K.D.R.C.)

In an unheralded friendly match against the Navy on Wednesday night A. W. Grimmitt (C.8.0.C.) the 'diehards' went down by four C. 8. Rosselet (C.C.C.) goals to one and generally gave a J. Hyde (K.C.C.) very disappointing display. However, J. Kempton (K.D.R.C.) everyone knows they can produce. Deakin (C.8.C.C.) good football on occasions and should |A. E. Mair (P.R.C.) ments of ships.

R. Lapsley (K.D.R.C.) Several new names appear. in the F. Cullen (K.D.R.C.) Mids' side. Jackson is regarded as M. N. Rakusen (C.8.C.C.) first chotee for goalkeeper although 8. Gray (K.D.R.C.) Drake is consistently giving good dis-J. C. Brown (K.D.R.C.) plays and must be considered a lik:-

ly candidate. Drake's only trouble is that he is likely to be over-awed on

occasions, but seems to be mastering. c. Chalmers (T.D.R.C.) this gradually. Cooper is once more o. Munro (T.D.R.C.) in the side at right back, and I pre- | N. J. W. K. Way (C.C.C.) fairly sound manner. Cooper can be A. Spary (K.T.G.C.A.) R. Wallace (T.D.R.C.) good on occasions, but I do not think 8. Eccleshall (C.8.C.C.) he is the best partner for Sheehan as they do not combine too well together. Freshwater and Wilkinson will again be in the half back line and their form is too well known to spectators need comment.

J. A. R. Selby (H.K.F.C.) A. H. Basto (K.T.G.C.A.) C. S. Rossalat (C.C.C.) H. Gitting (K.T.G.C.A.) W. V. Field (K.F.C.) J. G. Meyer (K.B.G.C.) J. 8. Logan (K.B.G.C.)

Two players called Thomas play for V. Chittenden (K.F.C.) the team on occasions and I am not F. Cheesman (K.B.G.C.) of M. A. R. Souza (C.C.C.) very clear which is which. One them is normally a centre half but W. Hillyer (C.8.C.C.) turned out for several representative. Cavanagh (C.C.C.) sides last year as an outside left al-D. w. Waterton (K.B.G.C.)

W. Bagley (C.S.C.C.) though playing normally for the sol-

G. C. Moss (P.R.C.) diers' second eleven. One Thomas H. W. Randall (C.C.C.) played at outside left and the other J. S. Riddell (P.R.C.)

at inside right against the Navy.

Pearson makes his re-appearance at centre forward and it

would be

ao. P. Remedios (Recreio) great stroke of fortune both for the P. J. Hamilton (K.B.G.C.) Middlesex and the Army side if heT. W. Carr (K.C.C.) could recover his form of two seasons

ANICE gesture was made by the Liga Portuguesa a couple of weeks ago when in return for the Army au- thorities' kindness in allowing them to use one of their grounds for hockey practice in the, evening, they asked to be allowed to present a prize at the next Athletic meeting, a gesture which has been gratefully accepted by the Sports Board.

THE Rowing regatta is being held a little later than usual this year for obvious reasons, and is due to take place on the 11th September, as usual at Stonecutters. Training has been very much interfered with and I do not anticipate teams from many units competing. The Artillery, Engineers and Service Corps will be sending teams and should put up quite good enough performances to ensure un enjoyable afternoon.
