NORWAY REPORTS HEAVY GUNFIRE
IN NORTH SEA
WHAT WAS APPARENTLY a naval engagement is the North Sea, lasting for some hours, is re- ported in circumstantial accounts from Norway, giving rise to much speculation in view of the absence of any confirmation by the Admiralty. Nothing was seen of the engagement from the Nor- wegian coast, but shattering gunfire rattled hamlets, while aeroplanes appear to have co- operated.
Three different messages have been received, at intervals, concerning the engagement, as follows:

Sunday's naval engagement off the Norwegian coast (reported in a mes- sage from Bergen) was so heavy that houses on the shore were shaken by the gunfire.-Reuter.

OSLO DESPATCH
London, To-day. As Oslo despatch confirms earlier reports from Bergen of a naval en- gagement off the Norwegian coast.
Firing started early in the after- noon and stopped between 7 and o'clock last evening-Reuter.

London, To-day. The Admiralty state that they have received no report of a naval engage- ment off the Norwegian coast, which would have been the case had one taken place, says the Ministry of In- formationReuter,

TRINIDAD CREWS FOR BRITISH SHIPS

The Ministry of Information says that many Trinidad seaman have vo- lunteered to serve on British mer- chantman whose regular-foreign crews are not willing to enter the war zones.
Eighty are already serving on three British ships, and a further appeal for volunteers has met with a ready res- ponse-Reuter..
