Zurich, Sept. 8. German mine barrages and an air-tight British blockade of the Reich greatly disturb- ed Scandinavian shipping in- terests, the "Nouvelle Gazette de Zurich" reported to-day from Stockholm.
Three ships were already sunk by German mines in the Oerusund straits separating Denmark's Zealand Island from Sweden. The Big and Little Belts, between the Danish mainland and the eastern Isles, were also mined, the newspaper added.
Swedish Danish, Norwegian and fishermen, depending on the seas for fish, were compelled to suspend their activities because of the many mine- flelds.
Swift and sure British naval patrols blockading German coasts further res- tricted shipping by controlling all marine movements along the Atlantic seaboard of Norway.
The German steamer Fribourg, en route to Java, succeeded in escaping capture only by flying a Danish flag changing its name to Ebro, and scut- tling into the port of Dronthein.
VAN MOLKERBUH SEIZED
The Van Molkerbuh which less for- tunate, was found and sunk by the British Navy off Norwegian coasts after her crew was taken off.
From several quarters came reports, that ships transporting iron ore from the Norwegian port of Narvih to Ger- many were seized in the last few days. Many other ships were compelled to seek hasty refuge in Norwegian ports en route.
Two-thirds of Norwegians iron ore exports normally went to the Reich, and British blockade reg- trictions were stated to be of the greatest importance to the German iron industry. The Norwegian firm Syavaranger, large iron-mining concern, has already had to give notice to 1,500 of its workmen.--Havas.
