Five women are among 400 ap. plicants for the post of execution- er at Sing Sing prison. The job has become vacant through the breakdown after illness of Robert Elliot, the veteran electrocution- ist of New York State.

Prison officials refused to rc- veal any details. about the wo- men's applications. Most of the applicants stated that they re- quired the job because they were dentitute.
