WILL SOVIET INTERVENE IN POLAND?: NAZI PUBLIC OPINION BEING PREPARED

London, To-day.

ACCORDING TO FOREIGN observers in Berlin, Ger- man public opinion is being prepared for the pos- sibility that Soviet Russia may “inherit” those sections of Poland containing White Russian and Ukrainian minorities.

These would be given Soviet Russia for the benevo- lent neutrality, if not actual participation in the conflict on the side of Nazi Germany.

news agency

A semi-official Nazi discusses the editorial in the semi- official Soviet newspaper "Pravda" on the alleged terroristic attitude of Po- land towards these minorities.

The news agency says that foreign diplomats in Poland would not be- lieve until now that the Soviet would interest herself in the plight of the minorities in Poland.--Reuter.'

NAZIS TRY TO

SUPPRESS CATHOLIC INFLUENCES

Rome, To-day.

Measures recently taken in Germany against the Catho- lic churches and press are revealed by the Vatican or- gan "Osservatore Romano," which refutes the reasons ad- vanced by Germany for the

measures.

In the first place, it says, the anti- Catholic provisions are not limited to closing churches and suppression of newspapers.

be

Secondly, remote churches are not likely to expoced to bombardment, and therefors are not dangerous meeting places re- quiring permanent closure.

THE TEST

Thirdly, restriction of the Catholic press to five newspapers for 30,000,000 Catholics is not justified by the eco- nomical use of paper, since no secular newspaper has been suppressed.

"Finally. comparison with the Evangelical Church cannot improve matters, since it only confirms the impression of indiscriminate intentions against Christian religious life." Reuter.
