Fine Display Against I.R.C. In “A” Division Play-off SPLENDID CONDITION C.R.C.

OF LEADING SUBS

The second half of the local racing season will start on Saturday week, September 23, and all arrangements have now been completed.

The ponies have been given harder work within the past week, and the majority appear to be ready for the re-opening.

Having dealt with the griffins, China ponies, in my previous article, I will now confine my remarks to subscription grif- ans, China ponies.

Markaman, champion sub of this season, appears to have benefited from the Sum- mer rest, and a return race with King Kong will be keenly awaited.

Among the old Subscription Griffins in training during the past two weeks, I like the look of Rose Evelyn. It is now in fine form and, under the control of Mr. C. En- carnacao, should give a good account of itself.

win or two.

Strathbannock won the First Section of the Boa Vista Handicap for "D" Class ponies at the 2nd. Extra Meeting, but lat- er developed shoulder trouble. The pony is moving very well just now and it seems to have fully recovered from its ailment. It should be watched at future meetings.

Musketeer disappointed the public after wimming the Valley Stakes. It has been doing some fast last quarters at the Valley fin morning training and indications are that it has recaptured its best form.

On that account it should be borne in mind over sprint events.

Chatterbox after winning the Nil Desper- andam Stakes" at the Annual Meeting did not make another appearance and I doubt whether it will be able to score a win this

second half.

round and 4-2 after the second.

Biggest surprise in the first round was the victory A. H. Madar and A. R. Minu over W. C. Hung and Iu Tak-cheuk. Had the Rumjahns beaten Paul Kong and Lee, as they should have done on paper, I.R.C. would have been in the happy position of being a set to the good, which, thus early in the proceedings, would have given them a tremendous psychological advantage.

However, Kong and Lee were not in any way worried by the reputation of the opposi tion and through brilliant serving and gen- eral all-round play went out at 6-A. unholy delight in their discpmforture. though many of the players have not yet put in any practice they will no doubt wel come the opportunity of having a run out. The services are now busfly engaged in their own work but it is certain that they will set about their training as soon convenient.

Dekko, which won, the Lantao Handicap at the last Meeting, looks sluggish in its movements and will probably take some time to regain its old form.

Salvage-Master, which was out of racing during the first half, is now on the course again with Mr. B. L. Tao. in the saddle, but, judging from its movement in training, it does not impress and I doubt if it will win a race in "C" Class.**

Tabby Cat, sold for a meagre $15 at the

pony auction last June, has regained some of its old form and should account for at least one race.

PONY FALLS BACKWARD Yet another accident occurred the Valley this morning, but happily without serious results.

A Chinese riding boy took out Mr. Australian pony L. Dunbar's new J. C. J. No. 61 for its morning ex- ercise and suddenly the pony reared high in the air near the 1-3/4-mile Silver Star slipped back badly after win-post and fell backwards. No injury ning the Tytam Handicap at the Ist Extra

is a picture of fitness and will prove a hard nut to crack.

Phoenix is not looking as well as it was before the Summer interval, when it near- ly snatched a win from Gog, but it will probably improve as time goes on.

Hadden has been knocking at the door for a win for quite a long time, and, as it is improving daily; it may win a race this second half.

Ascot Vale, winner of the Smugglers Plate at the 5th Extra Meeting, is in fine shape and should be considered for events not

over a mile,

Kut: Cheung is being very patiently train- ed by Mr. A. W. Raymond and should be kept in mind for sprint events.

Willynilly, Wong-Nel-Chong Stakes winner at the Annual Meeting, has been moving quite well during its morning exercises and

should be watched over sprint events.

DID NOT PAY

Against the Rumjahns they found that these methods did not pay. The I.R.C. as veterans played their usual unpretentious game and worked hard for every point. Result was that they turned a 4-5 deficit into a 7-5 victory which they thoroughly deserved.

having now been definitely established that local football will carry on more or less as usual. It follows therefore that ericket will follow suit.

In most cases, however, I understand that there will be a certain amount of de- Jay in starting. By this time, in normal seasons, most clubs have erected nets and. players are hard at practice. So far as have been able to ascertain, no, clubs have yet started ricts.

I learn that Kowloon Cricket Club, usual- ly the first club to get under way, will not atart its season until the first week of next month. Recreio, on the other hand,

will probably have their nets up this week.
