Be

Answered In

BRITISH ATTITUDE

UNCHANGED

London, To-day. "WHILE TO-DAY'S CABINET meeting is naturally awaited with keen interest by the British public, official circles in London emphasise that the attitude of the Govern- ment is entirely unchanged. Reuter's diplomatic correspondent learns from official cir- cles that whether or not the Axis Powers are convinced of British and French firmness of intention to lend as- sistance to Poland in the event of the latter being brought into conflict with Germany on account of a threat to Polish independence, is not a question which can be answered in London.

De-

Since the recent declaration of the Prime Minister in the House of Com- mons and Lord Halifax's speech on June 29, no chance has been lost to reiterate the sentiments therein ex- pressed during subsequent contacts between representatives of the gov- ernments in Berlin and Rome.

It is pointed out that any effort to misinterpret the British attitude is part of the customary technique to shake the confidence of the De- mocracies and have an effect on neutral Powers.-Reuter.
