Take Sun Intelligently

By. PATRICIA LINDSAY

It would be interesting to know how many women have ruined really nicely textured skin with careless sun- burn. No longer do women who are wise sacrifice their skin beauty with careless abandon, but one still sees some whose arms and back look like old brown leather at the end of the

summer.

Fortunate are those who can tan to a soft honey colour and they are us- ually blondes with blue eyes. ''These striking darlings incite many women to take the sun in the hope they will tan as beautifully! But alas, alas, they usually come out of the sun feel- ing the worse for having been in it too long, and looking * like a boiled lobster or an old browned pocketbook of scuffed leather!

If you are particularly anxious 'tan (to change the colour of your skin for a few months) you must go about the thing sensibly. You must provide your skin artificially with the oil that the sun-light and ́air take away from it through exposure, and you must for the first two weeks, burn by the clock!

- Each time you plan a sun bath, spend five to ten minutes rubbing an oil or cream into your skin-every bit that is to be exposed. Pay particular attention to your upperchest, the back of your neck and your shoulder joints. Sun gets at those tender parts first and does its burning best!

For the first two days (authorities agree) you should not be exposed to hot sun for more than three to six minutes; the third and fourth days ten to twenty minutes; the fifth and sixth days ten to twenty minutes; and
