GIANT RAY IN A SPORTIVE DISPLAY ROUND THE RAFTS
AT REPULSE BAY

Stockholm, Yesterday.
A HUGE FLAT-FISH, believed to be some sort of a ray, tem- porarily panicked bathers at Repulse Bay on Saturday afternoon when it swam around for some time in the neighbourhood of the rafts and the Lido Lady. It is presumed it was chasing the innumerable fish which hide round the rafts.

It is learned that two motor- lorries, conveying British troops from Pokfulam to Stanley was proceeding along Island Road.
The rear vehicle overtook the lorry in front at a bend between Deep Water Bay and Repulse Bay and overturned, falling down the hillside.
Its fiftéen occupants were sus- thrown down the hill and tained injuries and scratches which, according to the police, were not of a serious nature.
Information concerning the ac- cident was not available from the Military Authorities this morn- ing.

A new play by George Bernard Shaw, entitled "In Good King Charles' Golden Days," produced on Saturday night, was the main feature of this year's Malvern Fes- tival.
The play, which was well received by critics and a large audience, is described as being full of Shavian wit and

14TH-CENTURY BIBLE THEFT CHARGE
Marcus Paul Dare, 37, archivist to the Buckinghamshire County Council was acquitted at Birmingham Assizes, when he appeared on a charge of stealing a 14th-century Bible from Buckingham parish church.
Among those who shook Dare by
the hand after his acquittal was the Vicar of Buckingham, the Rev. R. F. Bale, who had been
one of the wit-
nesses for the prosecution.
The case had first been tried at Warwick Assizes, where the jury fail- ed to agree.
