"Shanking," or hitting the ball with the socket of the club at im- pact, is not an easy fault to cure. The merest suggestion may, bring back a rash of "shanka” to a golfer who thought he had taken the cure. Whatever the cause, and it may be duo to a bent left arm at the top of the swing, which in turn allows the loft elbow to stray too far away from the body on the downstroke, or to an over amount of right hand power; the result is the same. The clubhead passes beyond the ball and brings the shaft into contact with it.
The most effective cure is to pull down hard with the left arm from the ton, as if one were dashing the left elbow straight into the turf. Started in this fashion, the swing will be kept on an inside are but to keep this groove it helps consider- ably for the golfer to brush the left trouser leg with the left hand as the clubhead contacts the ball.
