The alleged discovery by the police of I.R.A. literature in a cupboard, and of appliances. for causing explosions buried in a garden were men-

Mr. Evans explained that paraf- fin wax did not burn when it was shaped like a container and had sulphuric acid poured in it. To cause an explosion the containers would be placed in a rubber bal- loon. which was laid on top of a mixture of sugar and potassium

chlorate.

containers sealed at both ends prevented the acid from getting to the explosive substance, but at the required moment the wax was broken, the acid burned through the balloon and a severe conflagration took place on contact with the sugar and potassium chlorate,
