Avoid Lurching Forward

By BEST BALL

When a golfer lets his body GRAPHIC GOLE

sway forward in the stroke, he loses to a large extent the crisp, slapping impact that, compresses. the ball almost instantly and sends it on its way. By bracing the left side at the contact stage, the play- er allows that fraction of time, ne- cessary for the right hand to un- cock and bring its punching pow er onto the ball. If the body is moving forward at this instant, instead of turning gradually around from right to left this wrist snap is dissipated over a stretch of several inches in the swinging arc. Both Lawson Little and Jimmy Hines have braced the left side in the above illustrations, Long hitters they have kept the weight well in reserve by this pro cess, bringing it into play at the procise moment of impact. It is necessary of course to have a clear

the hands, to travel in the ball but this is accom-. pivoting instead

the stroke.
