very satisfactory report for the year was presented by Hon. Sir Shou-son. Chow, Chairman, at the annual meeting of the China Em- porium Limited yesterday. A divi- dend of 80 cents, per share declared..

During the period under review there had been a marked improve- ment in the volume of business re- sultant from the gradual improve- ment in general trade in the first few months, but towards the close of the year; owing to the fall of Canton and Hankow which inter- rupted the free movement of trade with the interior and the heavy de- preciation of the Chinese National Currency which reduced the pur- chasing power of certain section of the general public, this improve- ment had not been maintained.
However, your Directors are able to report that although the volume of increased business did not come up to their expectation, yet on the whole the turnover exceeded that of the previous year.
The Directors wish to report that the second drawing for the re- demption of $100,000 of the Com- pany's Debentures took place
on
June 1 under the supervision of the trustee for the Debenture hold- era. All those numbers that had been drawn were paid at the be- ginning of this month, thus reduc- ing the outstanding amount of De- bentures to $800,000 at the pre- sent time.
