Three Killed
& Twenty-Three Injured

Lloyds, Colombo, says that the Narkunda, on the Australia run of the P. and O., has reported that the explosion in No. 6 hold has caused a fire and several casualties among the crew. Three were killed and no less than 23 were injured. The liner, which was bound from Colombo to Aus- tralia, carried 150 passengers, none of whom were hurt.

The police are sceptical of a theory that a bomb was in the hold.

Lance Corporal Ronald Reeves, 23, of the Middlesex Regiment, appeared before Mr. E. Himsworth this morning in connection-with-the incident-in Nathan Road on Friday night, when he was alleged to have broken a taxi-meter in a Kow- loon taxi.
This. morning, Inspector Whelan told the Court that de- fendant had no police record.. A military officer added that Reeves had a very good all- round record in the Middlesex Regiment.
Mr. Himsworth said that, in view of Reeves' good record, he would not impose a fine or prison sentence. He bound him over in the sum of $20 to be of good behaviour and to keep the peace for one year and order- ed him to pay the taxi-cab company $70 by way of com- pensation.
