SAPPERS SHOW PROMISE IN PRACTICE GAME
(By "GRAND STAND")
FTER outplaying and outhitting Chinese Baseball Club and lead-
apparently got kind hearted and fittered the game away to Chinese Baseball Club.
After four C.B.C. runs crossed the place in the seventh inning, Chief Umpire Charlie Horton called the game, alleg. ing that the South China fielders were not trying to field batted balls.
Horton had warned the South China captain twice that if his team didn't "play ball" he would call the game off.
The climax of the farce was reached when-Choy-sent-a-grounder-along the third base line for a homer and neither the third sacker nor the left fielder tried to field the ball.
At this stage umpire Horton called the game off.
After arbiters Horton and Dave Leonard had left the field the two teams finished the game with the help of two spectators as umpires.
The final score when Charlie Horton
Bill Chang then took over in the sixth and pitched a shutout inning.
I cannot understand why George Wu took over mound duty in the last inning when Bill Chang was doing nicely on the slab.

H.K.F.A. MEETING
TWO INTERPORTS WITH SHANGHAI?
A comprehensive review of the year's working was given by the Hon. Mr. M. K. Lo when presiding at the Annual General Meeting of the Hong Kong Football Associa tion yesterday.
In spite of the handsome profit made by the Association Mr. Lo drew attention to the fact that en- trance fees to the Association amounted to only 10 per cent of the total expenditure and that the As- were exceptionally brilliant in catching sociation had to depend entirely on flies, although they were a bit slow in gate receipts to make ends meet. South China scored three more in the third frame to take the lead 5-2 and C.B.C. annexed one marker in the third and one in the fifth.

In the farcical seventh, Chinese Base- ball Club garnered four runs on four hits off George Wu, who placed himself on the mound in the last inning.

Playing for the first time against a more experienced team, the newly or- ganised Royal Engineers squad were humbled by a local picked team to the tune of 11-1.
The Engineers are learning the game fast and with some more practice against stiff competition they should be able to field a first-class team by next season.
