one of the most thrilling "A" Division League tennis matches of the season, Indian Recreation Club, one of three teams still in the running for the championship, yesterday beat Club de Recreio but can be considered very fortunate to have done so.

Leading 2-1 after the first round, I.R.C. conceded two sets in the second and, had A. V. Gosano and J. J. Remedios, who had played extremely well in the first two rounds, won their final set against Omar Rumjahn and I. M. A. Razack as they were expected to do, Recreio would have created an upset.

As was expected, S. A. and H. D. Rumjahn won all their engage- ments by convincing margins but in the second round they were given a great fight by A. V. Gosano and Remedios, although they eventually won 6-2.

The Portuguese pair played a L.R.C. brilliant brand of tennis and more than held their own in the extend- ed rallies and it was only the fine understanding of the former Colony champions that enabled them to emerge at the right end of the score on the numerous occasion that deuce was called.

Also in the second round H. A. Barros and left-handed C.. A. Bar- retto secured their only set, at the expense of A. H. Madar and A. R. Minu, while A. V. Remedios and John Gonsalves did very well to beat Omar Rumjahn and I. M. Razack.

Thunder way now and although it is THE Billiards League is getting well

difficult to keep track of all the matches that are played I have been able to see опе or two very evenly contested games.

Early last week 40th Company, R.E. defeated the Signals by the surprising- ly narrow margin of 795 points to 784 on the aggregate. However, the En- gineers won four games to the Signals two, and with a point for the highest aggregate ran out winners by five points to two.

As the R.E. side must be regarded as joint favourites with R.A.M.C. for the League title, the Signals are to be which I must confess rather surprised complimented on their gallant display,

T/SGT. SHIP, a player of repute, had quite an exciting game against L/Sgt. Brackenbury of the Signals, the game fluctuating first one way and then the other. Ship produced a final burst, however, and reached his 150 with 20 points to spare.

Another close affair was the C.S.M. Raeburn, R.E., versus Signalman Mur- phy game. When the hundred topped there was little to choose be- tween the contestants and C.S.M. Rae- burn only managed to get his nose in front to win by the close margin of 14 points.

A meritorious victory in this match was the win registered by Q.M.S.- Thorpe of the Signals over Sgt. Davies the R.E. player. Davies is quite a use- Two relatively important mat-ful performer and the fact that Thorpe was able to win 150 to 98 gives him
