With my hand on my heart I declare the Italian-English match to be the greatest international I have ever seen, This because it was not one but both sides who soared to the heights-and stayed there, Because for all its fierce cut and thrust there were a hundred acts of personal sportsmanship--spon- taneously sincere, not theatrical.-L. By BEST BALL

The nearer the golfer comes to the green the further back toward the right foot the ball should rest in relation to the stance. The feet are placed closer together creat- ing a narrow stance, which allows easier bodily movement. This is important for in the short shots the swing is by necessity not given to taking such a wide arc as char- acterizes the longer ranges, Still there should be some body action to keep the muscles from becom- ing restricted. One of greatest faults in golf is tension and even in a shot as short as the putt some bodily action is allowed to offset it...

By using some body turn in a shot of this type the swing can be accelerated more gradually and the clubhead brought onto - the ball more precisely. Using an arm motion only, the golfer would have to swing more quickly to gain. 88 much power and haste here often means waste.. Let the clubhend float onto the ball on the down- Ward swing, its positionhear the right foot facilitates this, and the loft of the clubhead raise
