MR. DUFF-COOPER URGES BRITISH GUARANTEE OF THE BALTIC STATES
London, To-day.
In an article in the "Evening Standard" last night, Mr. A. Duff-Cooper, former First Lord of the Admiralty, urges the British Government to guarantee without delay the independence of the Baltic States and to speed up its efforts for an alliance with the Soviét.
The Baltic States, declares Mr. Duff-Cooper, are to
Moscow what Belgium is to Britain.
If the Belgian Government were
to adopt the entirely unfeasible
course of declaring that it no longer BRITISH EXPORT
needs British or French guarantees,
that would in no way alter the fact CREDIT FUND
that Britain, would nevertheless go
to war to prevent Belgium falling TOO
into the hands of a foreign Power.
WOULD HOLD GOOD
The guarantees would hold good, Mr. Duff-Cooper contends, whether Belgium desired them or not.
