An unusual summons was issued against a prisoner of Stanley Pri- gon by Detective-Sergeant H. J. Baldwin on behalf of Mr. H. M. Cassum, owner of the Ceylon Jew- ellery Shop, of No. 17A, Hankow Road.

As the result, the prisoner, Chan Tat-chau, better known as the "long-wanted man", who had been sentenced to five years' hard la- bour at the Supreme Court last year on charges of breach of the Deportation Ordinance and escap ing from legal custody, was this

It was only recently that the jew- ellery had been claimed by Mr. Cassum, who identified the arti- cles as those stolen from his shop on Oct. 24 last year.

Defendant stated that all the ar- ticles were his own property, hav- ing been bought in Canton when he was engaging in the jewellery business.

The Hong Kong Fund for depen- dents of those lost in the Thetis disaster, started by the Hon. Sir Robert Kotewall, the Hon. Mr. T. N. Chau, the Hon. Mr. M. K. Lo and the Hon. Mr. W.N.T. Tam, has now reached $2,240.

The Fund will be closed on Sat- urday, June 24.
