Chapter Of Accidents

London, To-day.-Batsmen were again in com- plete command in Home first-class cricket matches which concluded yesterday. None of the 11 fix- tures which commenced on Wednesday finished in two days.

There were some excellent performances re- corded. Yorkshire again being well to the fore with a brilliant win over Leicestershire at Hull.

With C. S. Dempster, the for- mer New Zealand test cricketer and Leicestershire's present cap- tain, making 165 not out, Leices- ter made 366 in their first inn- ings.

Yorkshire made light of this task. Sutcliffe made 234 not out towards a total of 500 for 7 dec, and then Ver- ity put Leicester out for 104 in their second innings to enable the Tykes to win by an innings and 30 runs.

There was some collossal scoring at Nottingham where Essex, despite first innings total of 531 for 7 dec., were beaten by the large margin of 8 wickets.

Essex secured a first-innings lead of

Glamorgan Again

At Gloucester, W. R. Hammond, the England skipper, made 135 and in so doing became the first batsman of the season to reach 1,000 runs. His batting and Scott's bowling gave Gloucestershire victory by an innings. and 67 runs over Surrey.

Mishaps

The cricket programme was marked by an extraordinary number of mis- haps. Mitchell, of Derbyshire, the leg- break bowler, broke a finger of

his left hand whilst playing against Wor- cester, Nichols, of Essex broke a toe in his right foot, while R. E. S. Wyatt, the Warwickshire amateur, received a blow over the heart whilst batting and was forced to undergo treatment for a clot of blood which had formed.

He insisted on batting the next day against doctor's orders but was im- mediately forced to retire when he received a severe blow over the thumb.
