KING'S RAZOR IS STOLEN
A gold-plated electric razor and other accessories which were to be put in the royal train for use by King George VI during his tour have disappeared from the railway yards at Montreal, says Reuter.
The police announce that they have issued a warrant for an arrest.
SAY ORPHANAGE TRIED TORTURE
child- The principals of five ren's orphanages in leading towns of Iowa (U.S.A.), have been cross-examined by the police and a large committee in what is al- leged to be the greatest orphan- age scandal the United States has ever known.
Some of the charges the com- mittee makes are that convicts, taken to the girls' orphanage at Davenport to work in the garden, gave "courses in vice"; that at a Toledo orphanage a boy was al- to entice lowed to build huts girls; that at another orphanage girls were allowed out to keep hotel trysts with men.
The committee alleged that one] institution had a "medieval tor- ture chamber"—a barbaric dun- geon in which offending children | were crowded..
Gay liquor and "petting" part- ies are alleged at other institu- tions.
