Tommy Armour has long been noted for his crisp, powerful iron play. Much of the secret of his Buccess lies in his hands which are among the strongest in profession- al ranks. Another point in which Armour is distinctive is the man- ner in which he keeps his right arm close to the body in the back- stroke.

Armour possesses a considerable pivot but he moves so smoothly he is able to take the club back, without calling on the right arm to push the clubhead up and thus flapping out away from the body. This keeps the clubhead travelling on an inside out arc.

If the right arm is allowed to drift away from the body, the downstroke oftentimes swings out- side the line of flight and cuts across the ball from the outside in. Tommy keeps his position over the
