AND CONSIDERABLE CRITICISM,
British residents in New York as well as prominent Americans sincerely hope that if the proposal that the King should avoid New York City is adhered to it will at least be made abundantly clear to the American people that the de- cision is one taken by the Ameri- can Government. The King, as the official guest of that Government, has no course but to accept without demur the plans made for his re- ception.
Government officials in Washing- ton naturally have memories of the very exuberant welcomes given by New York to national heroes in the past. They are alleged to fear that if their Majesties passed through part of New York City some un- toward incident might occur during the excitement,
