Clashes On Soviet Border: "Tense"
Situation
Tokyo, To-day.
A Japanese report says that fresh clashes have
taken place on the Manchukuo-Soviet border. Twenty-three Soviet soldiers are stated to have en- tered Manchukuo and fired on frontier patrols who returned the fire.
Later the Soviet troops are re- ported to have been reinforced by about 40 soldiers with two machine-guns.“
After three hours fighting the Russians are stated to have re- tired.
Next day the Soviet attack is re- ported to have been resumed on a larger scale.
Both sides are now said to be facing each other and the atmos- phere is described as extremely
tense.
