LADIES' RACE OMITTED FROM PROGRAMME

(By "RAPIER")

MAC 40 Arche Preta Race Course, Macao, and, judging by

[ACAO Jockey Club will hold their April Meeting on Sunday,

isfactory entries received, it is confidently expected that it will be a most successful meeting. A varied programme of seven events will be contested, the main feature of which is the race for the Gov- ernor's Cup.

This cup, was presented for competition by His Excellency, Dr. Arthur Tamagnini de Sousa Barbosa, the popular Governor of Macao and in order to secure permanent ownership of this trophy, it has to be won two years in succession by the same owner or owners, Shang- hai 4, owned by Mr. J. H. Potts, won this cup on November 12, 1938, and previous to that it was won by Merry Doer.

Handicap.

No provision is made at this, it came second to Three Farthings at meeting for lady riders, which is Fanling, last Sunday, in the Shataukok no doubt most disappointing to them, but I trust that this omis- sion is only temporary, and that the race will be revived later on. The s.a. "Taishan" will leave Hong Kong at 9.30 a.m., returning from. Macao at 6.30 p. m. the same day. RACE NO. 1. THE RAINTON HAN-

DICAP: SIX FURLONGS

This opening race of the day is for novice jockeys, who will be given mounts on China ponies, subscription griffins of the Macão Jockey Club that have not won more than $500.00 Stakes since January 1, 1938.

Victory Life has been allotted top weight of 163 lbs., and this is probably due to the fact that it ran second to Rothesay Bay in the Pleasant Quarters Handicap at the February Meeting Despite this burden, I think it has still a good chance of winning, but the real danger will come from Fairy Ousel.

This pony ran third to Fairy Auk-in the Chunghua Cup, and for to-morrow it will have to carry 160 lbs. Then there is Coureur Bleu, which will prove a dangerous problem provided it be made to follow a straight course instead of boring out. I fancy Victory Life to win, with Fairy Ousel second and Coureur Bleu third.

RACE NO. 2 THE HIGHFIELD HANDICAP (FIRST SECTION): ONE MILE

can

The entries in this race come from ponies classified "E" Class by Hong Kong Jockey Club, and it appears to me that Mac's Adventure stands about the best chance of winning. It will be ridden by Mr. P. Y. T. Wei.

Flybynight was third in the St. John's Cup over the mile, and Gold Sovereign will probably also have a say in the matter as it is quite fast over a short distance. The most dangerous pony, however, is Royal Highness, which is quite capable of creating an

One of the most amazing skiers. in Canada is undoubtedly one- legged Jean-Yves Gosselin of Quebec City; whose skill and daring ́on one ski has earned him International fame. The 20 year old youth, victim of tubercolosis bone at sevch. He soon discarded crutches and took to ski'poles and now he can negotiate the most difficult courses with an case which defics many normal skiers. He takes part in races and cross country events. RACE NO. 6. THE GOVERNOR'S Ladies' Interport Hockey

CUP: ONE

This is the main event of the day, and a Dollar Sweep has been selling in connection with it. I expect to see the following starting:--

XI In Last Practice

TO-DAY'S MATCH AGAINST CENTRAL BRITISH SCHOOL

FAIRY AUK (160 lbs.). HOGMANAY (140 lbs.). MERRY MAKER (140 lbs.). ROTHESAY BAY (135 lbs.). SHANGHAI 4 (146 Ibs.). Although carrying top weight I be lieve that Fairy Auk car still win. It is evident that Shanghai 4 is not the To the last time to-day, prior to their departure for Shang- same pony as hitherto, but should it strike its old form, and with only 146 hai, when they will meet Central British School on the latter's lbs. 'to carry, it is likely to givb Fairy ground commencing at 3 p.m. sharp. Auk a good run if it does not actually win.

Then there is Hogmanay to 'be con- sidered, as it came second to Fairy Auk in the Macao Handicap (First Sec- tion), over the mile, in the December meeting. I nominate Fairy Auk to win, with Hogmanay second and Shang- hai 4 third.

RACE NO. 7. THE CONSOLATION STAKES: HALF A MILE "This last race of the day will be confined to "D" and "E" Class ponies of Hong Kong Jockey Club that have started at this mecting and not won.

As this is a post-entry race. I leave after my readers to pick the winner having paid careful attention to the At the February Meeting, it was bea-other events of the afternoon. ten by National Dignity in the Re- publican Handicap, and in the absence of the latter Mac's Adventure should not find much difficulty in carrying off first prize.

The next best pony is Lucky Eleven, which is very fit at the moment, while King's Parade, the old battler, will also be in the picture. My nominations are Mac's Adventure to win, with Lucky Eleven second and Kings Parade

third.

RACE NO, 3. THE HIGHFIELD. HANDICAP (SECOND SECTION): ONE MILE

опсе

This is the second race for other members of the "E" Class ponies, and for its previous win National Dignity (Mr. S. L Yuen) has been given top weight of 108 lbs. Natona Dignity won the Republican Handicap, round, and, despite the extra weight which it will be carrying to-morrow, 1 think that it is still capable of winning, The only pony capable of giving it a good fight is Persian Cat (Mr. W. Cooper), which won the second section of the Republican Handicap, and I believe that Latitat is also likely to be in, the running for honours.

Natinoal Dignity and Persian Cat second and Labitat third. RACE NO. 4. THE BENDIGO HAN DICAP: SIX FURLONGS This event is confined to subscription griffing of Hong Kong Jockey thất hay knot won a race, and from the
