THE CHINA MAIL, MARCH 18, 1939.

Four foot two inches and weighing only 5st. 2lb., Mr. Hart Massey, son of the Canadian High Commissioner and nephew of Mr. Raymond Mas- sey the actor, is the diminutive little cox who will guide the Oxford University Crew during the Varsity Boat Race. When they are afloat it is Mr. Massey who is the "big noise". Those eight giants, all over six foot two, spring into action like guardsmen before their sergeant-major, when he bawls at them through his little megaphone. Slemick (St. Edmund Hall) went to Burnell's seat from No. 3. The All-England Championships

(By AIR MAIL)

A. S. Samuel, of Malaya, may prove to be one of the greatest rivals to R. C. F. Nichols, the men's singles holder, in the All- England championships.

Winning his first-round match against E. R. Mason at the Royal Horticultural Hall, London, yes- terday, Samuel displayed a keen sense of anticipation, deceptive speed about the court, and more Ithan ordinary ability in placing this shots.

Nichols won easily against M. H. Griffin, and the champion's brother, Leslie, beat Borge Fre- deriksen, one of the six Danes entered.
