BROADCAST APPEAL FOR SLOVAK CALM

The Slovak Prime Minister, Carl Sidor, newly appointed by Presi- dent Hacha, made a broadcast speech last night from the Bratis- lava wireless station, to calm the excitement by giving assurances that the Czech military and police will be withdrawn.

Dr. Sidor said that Czech gen- darmes should leave Slovakia within the next 24 hours.

Sidor declared that he had no- thing to do with the arrests in Slovakia or with the reconstruc- tion of the Government. He had himself protested against this in Prague.

All power in Slovakia, asserted Dr. Sidor, was now in the hands of the civil authorities.
