ORDERLY SURRENDER
OR
ANARCHY
BURGOS TALKS OF SURRENDER
Burgos, To-day. Significance of the dramatic developments in the Republican zone is considered in Burgos to be extraordinarily difficult to assess.
While the feature of the new Madrid Defence Coun- cil indicates that Communist elements have been thrown out, the broadcast statements of its leaders are regarding as indicating a deter- mination to continue the fight unless the Na- tionalists give conditions for surrender which they hitherto have refused.
However, it is thought here that since General Casado and General Miaja are both military men with full appreciation that their defence must collapse before a Nationalist offensive, the Council has been formed as an organising body for ultimate surrender.
is
General feeling in Burgos that the balance is now swaying between anarchy and orderly sur- render, with the balance towards the latter.
