That Britain has broken with her century-old practice of giving the Navy pride of place in the defence
estimates by expanding expenditure on the other two services to record figures, in excess of the Navy estimates, is regarded by the "Deutsche Allgemeine Zeitung” as the most striking feature of Britain's defence estimates for the financial year 1939-40. WHEREAS THE SUM OF £158,700,000 WILL BE SPENT ON THE NAVY IN THE COMING YEAR, AND £161,100,000 ON THE ARMY, THE AIR ESTIMATES HAVE REACH- ED THE TOTAL OF £205,900,000.
