Millions of pounds' worth of treasures from Spain's famous art galleries are waiting to be Un- packed here to-night and League officials are fear- ful of what they may find when the last oilcloth wrappings are removed.
For two years these masterpieces from the Prado and Escorial galleries have moved from sanctuary to sanctuary in Spain, pursued by the re- lentless fire and destruction of the civil war.
Art lovers the world over are wondering what has happened to the 990 pictures, which include 115 Goyas, 43 El Grecos, 45 by Velasquez, 38 by Titian and 25 by Rubens.
