Draw In Hockey Interport

FOUR GOALS SHARED IN THRILLING ENCOUNTER

J. NOLASCO AND LIEUT. HOOK PLAY BRILLIANTLY.

(By "REFEREE")

PLAYED at a furious pace on a hard fast ground, the sixth annual Inter- port hockey match between Hong Kong and Macao, played at Macao yesterday, resulted in a draw of two goals each.

I can visualise no fairer result. Both teams were remarkably well matched. About 1,500 spec- tators were treated to as fine an exhibition of hockey as the series has ever produced, but it is to be regretted, in view of the excellent manner in which the game was controlled, that they did not appreciate the unpiring better.

While the players.took everything in the best possible spirit, the same cannot be said of the crowd. Whereas I can appreciate a certain amount of bias in the matter of applause, I cannot excuse the booing of an umpire's decision, especially when that umpire happens to be a guest.

The Hong Kong team is to be, congratulated on the excellent manner in which they fought back at critical periods of the game. On two occasions they were a goal behind but each and every one of them stuck to their often did not bother to tackle back! job, eventually to be rewarded. an extremely serious fault in
