What do you first look at in a new face? The eyes, surely.
Later, when you know a person, the mouth may seem to be more expressive and to let you into more secrets even when it is closed. But certainly it is the eyes that first catch your attenion or lose it.
Of course, when we speak of the eyes and their expressiveness, we, include with them eyebrows, lids and lashes; in facts, the eyes and their immediate setting.
What is the best known phrase to denote a dull and inexpressive glance?
I think "a fishy glance" is the most usual; and this is because. though fishes' eyes are often in themselves beautiful, they have no lids, no lashes, no eyebrows, in fact, no power of expression. Nothing but a fixed, unwinking stare.
Not being a fish myself, I won- dered before I went to the beach how the eyelashes were going to stand up to the bathing. For-let's| face it--my eyelashes left all un- adorned to themselves are the co- lour of a young chicken! And this is not glamorous, indeed, no.

My entire appearance responds like magic to mascara. But some mascaras present grave difficulties to bathers.
Give a double coating to the tips, to show off their full length. And make up more heavily towards the outer corners of the eyes.
This new mascara that thrills me so, comes in almost every colour you can think of (except pale chic- ken yellow!).
They run if you put your head un- der water, just as they run if rain beats on to your face, or if you rub a damp hand feverishlyacross your brow, or if you get a fly in your eye..
And when they run, they hurt.
Black, brown, chestnut, blue- black, navy blue, blue-green, green, violet, auburn-and as though that choice weren't subtle enough, a new subtlety that you
could never guess at: A colourless mascara!
Does that sound a bit haywire? Not if you've got naturally dark lashes, madam! You don't want to colour them if they're the right colour already.
them if you're a very young lady And you don't want to colour
and well brought up!
One of them hurts so much that a friend took to using it when she was crossed in love. "It's to break myself of crying," she explained simply. "I really daren't cry when I've got it on."
