De Valera Steps To Suppress Irish Republican Army

Dublin, To-day. The Minister for Justice, Mr. Patrick J. Ruttledge, yesterday introduced two measures in the Dail aimed at suppression of extremist bodies such as the Irish Republican Army.

The first bill makes provisions to deal with actions and conduct calculated to undermine the pub- lic order and authority of the State.

The second measure provides for punishment in the case of treason and certain military offences, and will repeal the existing Treason Law passed in 1925.

The Labour leader, Mr. William Norton, said his party would op- pose the Bills. He declared. the country had not been so peaceful for years.
