CUP COMPETITION
(By: Air Mail)Last week, Mr. William Maley, the Glasgow-Celtic F.C. manager, had some very hard things to say about the practice of allowing minor clubs to play in the Scottish Cup competition. He stress- ed the possibility of a First Division Club drawn away to one of the minor clubs, having to share a very small gate with consequent financial loss and also the risks which might acrue to valuable members of the team in such games. One may imagine the feelings when his club were drawn away from home with Burntisland Shipyard and shared a gate of under 1,500! The biggest gate, of the Scottish Cup First Round was at nearby Stacks Park, Kirkcaldy, where almost 22,000 saw a Venters goal enable Rangers to beat Raith Rovers by 1-0. The biggest scorer of the day was Heart of Midlothian's now centre, Garret, who scored 6 of his side's 14 goals against Penicuik Athletic.

A feature of the draw for the Second Round of the Scottish F.A. Cup which takes place to-day, is that it makes a certainty of a non-Leaguo club - being represented in the third round, and since Blairgowrie ousted Dumbar-.. ton it would seem likely that they will. advance at the expense of either Nithsdale Wanderers or Buckie Thistle. This match will be only the seventh for the Blairgowrie club this season.
Another point in the draw is that Celtic are called upon to visit Mon- trose, who defeated the Cup-holders, East Fife, at Methil.
