VISCOUNT GORT PAYS TRIBUTE TO TROOPS
Hong Kong was mentioned when Viscount Gort, Chief of Im- perial General Staff, who is short- ly paying a visit to Egypt and Palestine, gave a broadcast talk on the Army last night.
Viscount Gort said that although home defence problems loomed large, they should not forget the soldiers doing sentinel duty in Tien- and tsin, Shanghai, Hong Kong many other outposts.
The British soldier, he said, had never failed to carry out his duties with cheerful optimism and a lack of rancour.
