FRENCH NAVAL CONCENTRATION

AT KWONGCHOW

Macao, To-day.

Several French warships, it is reliably reported here, have been despatched from Haiphong to Kwongchowwan, French leased territory.

It is also added that a number of Japanese gunboats were cruis- ing. outside the harbour of Kwongchowwan last evening.

The French authorities are taking precautions against a pos- sible landing of Japanese troops in the vicinity of Kwongchow- wan. Our Own Correspondent.

FERRY BOAT CUT IN TWO

Five persons are known to have perished, 20 were injured and 80 are missing, in a collision between a ferry steamer and a dredger in the river Tagus.

During the fog the ferry boat was taking workers from Lisbon to Cacilhas, on the opposite side of the river,

The ferry boat, which was crowd- ed, was cut in two, and sank rapid- ly.

Most of the passengers and crew were flung into the water 'and were carried away by the swift current. Some clung to the wreck, and their cries could be heard from both banks.

Boats went to the rescue imme- diately, and warships at anchor turned their searchlights on the

scene.
