JAPANESE MAKE NEW DRIVE IN KULING AREA
Shanghai, To-day.
Japanese forces have resumed operations against the 2,500 Chin- ese soldiers who are marooned near the famous Kuling resort, in the vicinity of Kiukiang.
Shortage of food, coupled with intense cold, recently compelled the Chinese soldiers to make a desfer- ate attempt to break through the Japanese lines: Some succeeded in making their way through dis- guised as peasants.
The Japanese offensive, says a Japanese bulletin, succéeded yes- terday in capturing Kangkiashan Hill.
The operations are greatly im- peded by the mountainous nature of the territory.
Nearly 100 foreigners are still staying in Kuling, which is en- circled by the Chinese who them- selves are surrounded by Japanese forces.-Trans-Ocean.
