Huge seas broke over the East Pier at Scarborough during a gale which raged round the north east coast of the British Isles. Gale winds swept the promenade causing untold damage, whilst trawlers experienced great difficulty in reaching harbour, to shelter in safety from the teeth of the gale. Photo shows a trawler in heavy seas with waves breaking over the harbour entrance at Scarborough.
