To free the police from other duties Surrey County Council have intro- duced on the St. Helier Estate at Mordern an experimental scheme whereby specially trained members of the local British Legion will patrol busy roads and ensure the safety of school children. The patrol men, who are paid 5s a day, wear white coats and carry boards with "Children Crossing" on them.
