MACAO RACE MEETING ON SUNDAY
Good Tussle Between Fairy Auk And Shanghai 4 Anticipated In First Race
DOUBLE CHANCE FAVOURED FOR
THE
KANSU HANDICAP
(By "RAPIER”)
HE January meeting of the Macao Jockey Club will be held at the Areia Preta on Sunday, when an entertaining programme will be featured. The two outstanding events are likely to be the Szechuen Handicap (First Section) and the Kansu Handicap.
The H.K., Canton & Macao RACE NO. 2: CHINGHAI HANDICAP Steamboat Co.'s 8.3. "Taishan" (FIRST SECTION) SIX FURLONGS: This race is confined to "E" Class will leave Hong Kong at 9.30 a.m. (Canton Steamers' Wharf) and ponies classified by the Hong Kong will return from

which lost to Tabby Cat in the p.m. The first bell will be rung at 1.30 p.m. and the first race will Finale Handicap over a mile at the start punctually at 2.00 p.m.
13th Extra, will have to carry top weight of 168 lbs. and, despite this heavy burden, I fancy it to win. It has shown an improvement lately.
I anticipate that its main opposi- tion will come from either Stymie or Yum Sing.
There are altogether six events on the programme, the last race being reserved for lady jockeys over three furlongs.
RACE NO 1: SZECHUEN HANDICAP (FIRST SECTION) NINE FUR- LONGS:
This race is confined to subscrip- tion ponies of the Macao Jockey Club of any season, with the fol- lowing probable starters:-
Fairy Auk (Mr. A. W. Raymond) Fairy Ousel (Mr. G. Treverton) Hogmanay (Mr. S. L. Yuen) Merry Maker (Mr. S. C. Liang) Shanghai 4 (Mr. P. Y. T. Wei) Victory Life (Mr. Chanson)
Fairy Auk, winner of the Macao Handicap over a mile at the Decem- ber Meeting, has been penalised 7 lbs. and, as the distance is over nine furlongs, I think it stands a good chance of a win.
Shanghai 4, although beaten by Fairy Auk in this same race, will have a change in jockey, with Mr. Wei up this time, and as these two
expect to see the following starting:
Cuban Love (Mr. K. I. Ip)
Double Chance (Mr. A. W. Ray-
mond)
Gold Sovereign (Mr. S. C. Liang) Good Morning (Mr. S. L. Yuen). Lucky Eleven (Mr. G. Payne) National Anthem (Mr. H. P.
Chanson)
The Leopard (Mr. S. N. Pan) Wenning (Mr. G. W. Cooper) Among this bunch, the pony with the best recommendation is Double Chance. For its win in the Dilatory Handicap over a mile at the 13th Extra at the Valley, and the Kiang Wu Handicap over six furlongs at Double the last Macao meeting, Chance will be called on to carry 10 lbs. more, but I think it should secure another win.
"REVIEWER'S" SPORTS COMMENTARY
Len Harvey's Strength
་
Before a great crowd at Harringay Len Harvey regained the heavyweight championship of Great Britain which he lost to Petersen in 1934. The con- test was short, and the ending unsatis- factory, but while it lasted excitement ran high. Harvey was in magnificent
stories that he condition. The been built up to 13 st. turned out to be true. Actually he scaled 12 st. 131⁄2 lb., and every ounce of it was solid muscle
and bone.

It will receive stern opposition from Good Morning, which has in- variably done well over short dis- tances. Gold Sovereign is not a Stymie won the Autumn Handi- fast mover in a short race, but cap at Macao at the last meeting it will probably have a say in the and the Happy Valley Handicap finish. I nominate Double Chance to over a mile at Fanling on Boxing win, with Good Morning second anded 13 st. 8 lb. and looked in good con

Harvey has always been strongly muscled, but his development was much increased. I doubt whether a strong- er man has entered a British ring in this generation. With his thick neck, sloping, heavily muscled shoulders, great pectoral muscles, and immensely strong arms developed to their utmost, Harvey looked the model of a power- ful athlete, and yet showed no trace of being muscle-bound. Phillips weigh-
dition. He was bulkier in the body than Harvey, and taller, but as he did not stand up so straight as the Cornish- man the latter point was not appar- ent.
Neusel, with whom Harvey drew some years ago, may be his next op
that ponent, but it seems probable James, the Welsh heavyweight, will be the next challenger for Harvey's title. The Welshman should get useful ex perience from his forthcoming contest with Gains, though the negro must by now be long past his best. It is a pity Farr does not return from Ameri- ca. It is, of course, possible that he may get the return match with Joe' Louis for which he is hoping, but he is just as likely to obtain it by regaining the British title as by taking part in so-called eliminating contests in..

not at all surprising that it has been penalised 15 lbs. for this event on Sunday. Can it win again? I think it will, in view of the fact that it was several lengths in front of Merry Fatty, the second pony, at the finish.
The result should be the same, even with the distance a little long- er, and I think that Rothesay Bay should not find much difficulty in taking third position.
RACE NO. 5: CHINGHAI HANDICAP (SECOND SECTION) SIX FURLONGS.
Eagle won the Limchow Handicap over 11⁄2 miles at the November
Meeting, and on that account I be-
lieve it has a good chance of win-
ning again, but on the other hand
there is Cloudy Star to be reckon- ed with.
The last time these two met Cloudy Star had to concede 14 lbs, to Eagle, whereas on Sunday the difference is only 3 lbs.
