Runcorn Will Entertain

Cup Holders

HUDDERSFIELD AT HOME TO NOTTS FOREST

(By AIR MAIL)

The draw for the Third Round of the English F.A. Cup ties. to be held on Saturday on the grounds of the first named clubs, has decreed that several of the lesser lights of the football world shall entertain popular clubs.

Runcorn, the Cheshire County League club, who caused a sur- 'prise by dismissing Aldershot, have drawn the big "plum" in Pres- ton North End, the Cup-holders. As Preston have to travel, they cannot afford to treat their task light-heartedly.

Chelmsford City, the only other] non-League club definitely in the

third round, have the good for Y.M.C.A. ARRANGE tune to receive Southampton, and they may create a surprise.

From a box-office point of view, two ties stand out themselves, One is the meet- ing of two of London's wealth- iest sides in Chelsea and Ar- senal, who clash at Stamford Bridge. The other takes place at Derby between the two lead- ing clubs in the League, Derby County and Everton. On the whole, First Division clubs have been extraordinarily

SPORTS COMMENTARY

Lawn Tennis Team For

South Africa:

Last Thursday the team of three men and three girls selected by the L.T.A. sailed for South Africa on a tour that will last about three months.

the The men's side of

team is relatively, stronger than the women's; at any rate, if the ranking lists are to be taken as a guide.

D. W. Butler is to captain the side, and R. A. Shayes and E. J. Filby are his adjutants, so that two out of our first have made the voyage. Not one of the first six of our ranked women, however, is included in the side, most of them finding themselves unable to be away from home for so long. But in Miss J. Saunders, Miss the V. Scott, and Miss R. Thomas South Africans will have the oppor- tunity of seeing three of the best of Britain's younger school, who should, moreover, stand a good chance of

the success against any of

South Africans except Mrs. Miller,

Miss Thomas, still a "junior," must be the youngest girl ever selected to go on one of these international match trips.

Besides matches against district and club organisations," the team will play three Test matches during February at Durban, Johannesburg, and Capetown respectively. This ar rangement is the same as has been carried through on previous tours; but there is one difference between the present and any which have taken place before.

This is, that a great deal of the travelling while the tourists are in South Africa will be done by air. This will not only save the long and weari- some railway journeys, which on pre- deleterious

effect on touring players.

In any case, the difference in tem- perature and rarity of atmosphere between, say, Durban and Johannes- berg is quite a sufficient handicap to a visiting team.
