HONG KONG RELIEF CHILDREN'S PUZZLE ORGANISATIONS AND WANG CHING-WEI

The Chinese Relief Organizations of Hong Kong headed by the Hong Kong Branch of the National Wo- men's Relief Asso, have sent a tele- gram to the National Government and Generalissimo Chiang Kai- shek voicing their approval of the measures taken in depriving Wang Ching-wei of membership in the support for the Generalissimo's policy of determined resistance.

The telegram points out that Ja- pan, expecting peace appeal from China after the fall of Canton and Hankow, and astounded by China's more determined stand, has resorted to an attempt to divide China in- ternally. The public needs to know that, the future prospect of our war of resistance, far from being clouded by Wang Ching-wei's shameless betrayal is on the trary much brightened by the velation that Japan has been com- pelled to employ political means to deal with the Chinese problem as a result of sixteen months' exhaus- tion of her power of aggression which is not more capable of mak- ing a further advance.

The telegram also calls attention to the fact that the fleeing of Wang and his group from Chungking has clarified the political and diploma- tic stand of the Central Government which was secretly manaced by the sinister schemes of the pro-Japan- ese elements hidden under üts shadow, As our firm determina- tion to fight the aggressor to the bitter end is thus better known to the world, we shall be brought into still closer relations with those friendly powers, sympathetic with our course for the defence. of law and civilization.

NEW LIFE MOVEMENT DINNER

Chungking, To-day.

&

While General Chiang Kai-shek. spent New Year's Eve studying | state papers, his wife attended dinner given under the auspices of the New Life Movement Associa- 'tion, which raised more than $16,- 000 from the 400 guests for relief work among the families of Sze- chuen troops now going to the front.

After the general collection, Ma- dame auctioned a silver cup which went to Mr. Lu Tso-fu, Vice-Minis- ter of Communications, for $3,000. -Reuter.

LONDON POLICE BRAKE-TESTING DEVICE

London, To-day.

As part of a campaign to reduce the toll of life and limb in road ac- cidents, police motor patrols have begun to carry a device for testing the brakes of cars on the road.

In cases where they have reason to think the brakes on any car are not properly efficient they will make a test and if the "decelerometer" confirms the inadequacy of the braking effect, the motorist will

be put under notice to have the defects remedied.-British Wireless,
